Lab

Instrumental kinematic investigation of speech at the Department of Phonetics was initiated in 2005. Speech Kinematics Lab was set up in 2017. The main impetus for its establishment was CROCO research project (Coarticulation in Croatian speech: instrumental investigation, funded by HRZZ).

The Lab is equipped with two EPG (electropalatographic) systems, two UTI (ultrasound tongue imaging) systems and six computers set-up for EPG, UTI and acoustic research. There is also a large screen for research meetings and data discussions.

Three large databases of kinematic and acoustic recordings of typical and atypical speakers were developed and they include experimental designs in which quasi-spontaneous speech is recorded in various communicative situations. Researchers and students also have various international databases of kinematic recordings of speech at their disposal.
