Diana Tomić completed her M.A. studies in Phonetics and English Language and Literature in 2006 with Master thesis “The vowel space of children with cochlear implant”. From 2007 to 2013 she studied at Postgraduate Doctoral Study in Linguistics (Phonetics), University of Zagreb, She defended her PhD thesis entitled “Interactions of phonetic and phonological development of the sound / r / in children aged 3 to 7” on 17.10.2013. Since June 1, 2007 she has been working as a research assistant on the project “Neurolinguistic aspects of bilingualism” and as a TA at the Department of Phonetics at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb. In 2014 she became research associate in Phonetics, in 2016 non-tenured Assistant Professor and in 2017 tenured Assistant Professor at the Department of Phonetics. She has been teaching various courses (Phonetic Speech Training, Speech Development, Public Speaking for teachers etc.). She has been teaching at doctoral summer schools and at other life-long educational projects organized by the faculty.
As a casual teacher, she has been working at several other faculties (Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation, Faculty of Agriculture and Faculty of Kinesiology). Today, she is the principal instructor courses such as Public Speaking Culture, Business Communication and Media Delivery for Kinesiologists etc.
From 2008 to 2010 she has served as a member of the Faculty Council (Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences) representing research and teaching assistants. Since 2012 she has been a member of the Presidency of Phonetic Section within Croatian Philological Association and since 2016 she has served as the President. She has actively participated in numerous international and domestic conferences, as well as organizing some of them (Clinical Linguistics and Phonetics (2008), Speech Research and Ivo Škarić Days). She has reviewed scientific papers for national and international journals and books for national publishers. She has participated in the work of already mentioned scientific project, but also in the work of some professional projects (VOC.COM – funded by IPA funds EU, organized by Dubrovnik Vocational School for Economy, ProGOVORi – funded by The Ministry of Science and Education, organized by Phonetic Section etc.)Her scientific interest is on speech development on one hand and rhetorical pedagogy on the other.
